Welcome to 2020! As you read this I am in the Acting CEO chair for another week. Ali returns on Monday February 17.
I hope you are feeling calm as we enter into the second month. When there’s so much work going on across our sector, the opportunities to share, talk, network and celebrate become even more vital. If you live in Devonport, how can you be expected to know what is happening in Hobart? Similarly, how can alcohol and other drug workers have the time to understand what is happening in other services, across different sectors, or at a national level. We all know bits and pieces, but do we ever really know or feel like we are across it all? I know that I feel like I accidentally stumble on vital information more than what I should. It’s not us, it just ‘is’.
In this light I encourage you to think about registering for our conference. We have reduced the rego cost significantly (by about a hundred dollars), which is a feat unto itself considering how costs seem to go up year after year. We have extended the Call for Abstracts to February 20. I just checked the list of people that have submitted one already- I am excited to say that will have considerably more abstracts submitted than last time. This event occurs every two years and is across two days and is the only time where we manage to get people from all corners of Tasmania, across government and community sectors, as well as representatives from other related sectors in the same venue at the same time all talking about alcohol and other drugs.
Apart from that, well there’s a lot more coming up, and so I will encourage you to have a read of our latest eNews.
Thanks for reading and please get in touch – 6231 5002 or policy@atdc.org.au if we can assist you.
