The research is part of the a National study called Beyond the Emergency, which is being conducted by Monash University in partnership with ambulance services across Australia and in collaboration with Turning Point and Victoria University with funding from Movember Foundation.
They are looking to recruit males over 18 who had called for an ambulance in the past three months for a possible mental health or AOD issue. Participants can share their experiences in an anonymous and confidential telephone call and will be reimbursed for their time. The research could play an important role in the development of training paramedics receive and which they can draw on when responding to a mental health call-outs and better support men in times of crisis, linking them with relevant support in the community.
